Berry Bugs

This tick is much bigger than a harvest mite

Thes mites live on forrage all around us (grass, plants and surfaces in gardens) and look like tiny orange dots. Their proper name is Trombicula Autumnalis. You see then sometimes on walls or between your dog's toes or at the base of your cat's ears. They live for 2 years and are obligate parasites in year one - that is, they must feed on a mammal to survive. Most animals are not sensitive to them, but those that are become very itchy and cause sores and scabbing on their skin from scratching and licking. This needs treated.

Look out for itchy pets in August and September, when Berry Bugs are prevalent.
