Good all-round experience |
We have a good work ethos and aim to avoid stress by working sensible hours, with equally shared on-call, good remuneration and live in a very relaxed and beautiful part of the country. Have a look at "Why work for us" for more background.
The successfull applicant for this post will have a mainly Equine work-load during normal working hours, with some sessions put aside for small-animal work but on-call work, out-of-hours, will be solely for Equine and Farms, working with three others (including 2 partners) in a one-in four rota, while a member of the small-animal team (who do not work with large animals) will cover the pets' on-call. You will normally finish at 5pm, (approximately) with one late small-animal surgery per week, till 6.30pm. You will have a half-day every week. This is a genuinely mixed post but with a strong Equine bias due to an increasing equine work-load and preference wil be given to the condidate who has strong equine enthusiasm and experience. Because you will be doing only equine work with some farm work when on-call, we need an experienced assistant, who enjoys predominately working with horses with some farm work, along with a sprinkling of small animals. There may be partnership prospects for the successful applicant.
We have a new purpose-built surgery in Dundee and have facilities there to admit equine day patients for X-ray, scans etc. We do advanced dental work on equines and have facilitiers for AI from frozen semen. We have 2 other branch surgeries. One partner has a small animal orthopaedic speciality in small animals and we receive referrals in this field. With contraction in the farming industry, we see many more equines than farm animals, in the large-animal side. The practice is approximately 75% small and 25% large animal, most of the latter being horse work. We have 14 Vets in total, 2 of which work part-time. We have just invested in an advanced ultrasound scanner and have employed a new Vet with an ultrasound speciality to show its full benefits for pets and for horses.
In addition,we have 2 X-ray machines in-house and one mobile unit. We have 2 other ultrasound machines (used mainly for tendon scanning and PDs), 3 ultrasonic scalers, an endoscope, ecg, BP etc. and the 2 automatic film processors give us great dry radiographs too.
You will have a mentor to whom you can direct queries and discuss cases, although all the partners are very approachable and supportive.
Vets meetings are every second Thursday, when time is set aside for this purpose. Paid CPD is encouraged and can be planned at periodic individual assessment meetings when we can set goals to which we can help you achieve, which should benefit you and Parkside. We are recognised as a Tier 2 Practice for Small, Equine and Farm work,
We have a good team of Vets and an equally good, friendly team of Nurses, Receptionists and other staff, all lead by our Practice Manager, Tina Matheson (tmatheson@parksidevets.com). We have low staff turnover.
Have a look around the web-site for some insight into our practice.
